FAQ

Fixing inspections in Clyde North: common questions

How flat does a plastered wall need to be?

The Guide to Standards and Tolerances 2015 treats a wall as defective if it bows more than 5 mm over a 1.8 metre straight edge, viewed in normal light.

Are cracks at fixing stage normal?

Fine shrinkage cracks can be. Wide or repeating cracks at corners point to movement and should be looked at by an engineer before the walls are painted.

Why check the roof again at fixing?

Some flashings and junctions are finished late, and water getting in now stains the new plaster and slab. It is far cheaper to find before painting.

Do you check the kitchen and joinery?

For installation and finish: alignment, fixing, gaps and damage. Appliances are not tested.

How long is the fixing stage visit?

About two hours for a single storey, three on a double storey.

Are fixing and waterproofing one visit or two?

No. Waterproofing is before tiling; fixing comes after plaster and joinery. They are sometimes booked close together, but they look at different work.
