Your meter box should hold a termite notice: here is why

What a termite management notice records, why it matters when buying, and what it means when one is missing.

Clyde North 3978 · 2026-06-02

In short: Every recent house with a termite system should have a notice in the meter box saying what was installed. On several inspections we have found none.

What the notice says

A durable termite management notice records the type of system installed, the date, and what inspection and maintenance it needs. It is usually fixed inside the meter box where an inspector or new owner will find it.

Missing at resale

On a May 2026 pre-purchase in Dandenong North the notice could not be found. The report recommended asking the owner or agent for records of any previous termite management before settlement.

Missing during construction

The notice is also checked on new builds. In Clyde North we have recorded it missing at frame and lock-up stages, where it should be installed once the system is in place.

Why it matters

Without the notice you do not know whether the house has a chemical barrier, a physical barrier or reticulation, or when it was last treated. That affects how it should be maintained and what voids any warranty.

Other findings on the same jobs

Timber debris and stored items under houses and against walls turned up on the same inspections, each listed as a conducive condition to remove.
